Testimonial from Cathy Colgrass-Edwards
My name is
Cathy Colgrass-Edwards. Currently I am a Village Trustee in
Brookfield. Prior to that I was Brookfield's Director of Parks and
Recreation. I turned 65 this year so I guess I'm officially a
senior now, although I don't feel like it. The job of Trustee is
part-time so it leaves me time for myself during the day. I was
very conscious about making certain that now that I am retired, I
don't want to spend my free time sitting on the couch watching
TV. I knew there were lots of things to do so I just had to
go and find out what those things might be.
Through our local newspaper I saw an article about the Fitness
Services offered by Cantata Adult Life Services.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Cantata was
actually focusing on people my age. That impressed me and
then the program itself impressed me even more. It was so
different than any other program I had ever participated in
before.
The explanation that I received from the fitness trainers as to
why these new and different machines were so important made so much
sense to me. I was impressed that Cantata went through all
the trouble to invest in this kind of equipment. This is equipment
that I have never seen in any other fitness center before. I
enjoy exercising and I don't walk away feeling as though I just ran
in a marathon. I feel refreshed because the equipment can be
used in a way that doesn't over exert people when they use
it. We can work at our own pace.
The employees at Cantata Adult
Life Services care about people and have shown us just how
important it is to have a fitness plan in our lives. They are
hoping to keep us healthy and happy living in our own homes, and do
everything they can to help us in that way.
So, I still don't feel 65 and I'm having a good time doing many
different things with my time. Going to the Cantata Fitness
Center is a pleasure. It doesn't feel as though it's
something I should do - it feels like something I want to do.
I enjoy seeing all the people - from the staff and trainers, to the
new people I have met who have also joined this program. I
have learned that we all have something in common no matter how old
we are - we need to stay active and not just by going places but
also by spending some time exercising and this is a fun way to do
it.
I really encourage people of all ages to consider this
program - this is a program for everyone - young and old. It
can be modified to fit everyone's needs.
