New Ways to Stay Safe and Independent in Your Home >

Friday, October 10, 2014 from 2:30 to 4 pm
Advances in motion sensors, GPS, and other home technology are helping older adults maintain independence in new ways. Come learn how to make your home “smarter” and safer as we demonstrate these devices.

No session would be complete without mention of low tech ways to take control and stay safe – from living wills and home safety checks, to assistive devices.

As we conclude, we will show you our “Smart House” that you can draw inspiration from to modify your own home.

Windows Tablet Tutorial: Getting To Know your Windows Tablet >

Two Mondays from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm beginning Sepember 29, 2014
Much like the saying, “eyes are a window to your soul,” a tablet is a window to new experiences. Get to know your Windows tablet by learning the basic functions and how to navigate and access programs and applications that fit your lifestyle. Students should bring their Windows tablet to each class. In order to take full advantage of your Windows tablet’s features, you must know your Microsoft account log-in email and password.

Two Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 am starting September 25, 2014
Congratulations on getting to know the basic functions of your iPad, tablet or smartphone. Now it’s time to learn about those individual icons on your home screen called applications, or “apps.” Mobile devices of all shapes and sizes can download and customize apps to fit your needs and interests. Maybe you’re interested in downloading a new recipe to add to your recipe book? Or perhaps you’d like to download your favorite book to read electronically and on the go. This course will take you step by step to teach you how to download, access and navigate apps for your enjoyment. Please bring your own smartphone, tablet or iPad.

Technology can help in more ways than you think when it comes to your health and fitness goals. Whether you’re trying to get your heart rate up during a workout or you want to monitor your blood pressure or weight loss, there’s an app for that! Our one hour class will teach you how to download and navigate popular fitness applications to your device, then show you the benefits of using them in your everyday health and fitness goals. Please bring your own smartphone, tablet or iPad to class.

Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 1 to 3 pm
Maybe you’ve joined the millions who’ve purchased an iPad and now you want to learn how to use it. Or perhaps you haven’t bought one yet, but would like to test drive one first. This two-hour workshop will show you how to navigate an iPad and find the applications best for you. Bring your own iPad if you have one. If not, we’ll supply you with one to try out during class.

With so many online outlets of self–expression from Facebook to Pinterest, there’s a lot to learn and share. Come learn about popular social media sites and what they each represent. You can then decide if a social media account is the right choice for you or improve your current accounts.

Six Mondays from 10 to 11 am starting Monday, September 15, 2014
Now that you own an iPad, it’s time to learn the basic functions like setting up your home screen, customizing your applications, backing up information, setting up email and navigating the internet. Please bring your iPad to each class session.

Facebook 55+ >

Two Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4 pm beginning October 1, 2014
The number of people 55+ using Facebook has increased 79 percent in the last two years. You’ll be surprised how many people you know who are using Facebook. Learn how to create a Facebook profile, set and manage privacy settings, connect with other Facebook users and navigate pages. You will also learn how to send private messages to friends and save your favorite Facebook photos. Please bring your own device to each session.

Pinterest is a web-based pin board for collecting and organizing your favorite ideas. You can find great ideas for just about anything you want to do! Learn to create a Pinterest account, set and manage privacy settings, create public and private pin boards and search for pins related to your own interests.
